Bio

Hi My name is Jacqueline Hawkins but I go by Jai. I currently reside in Lakewood,Ohio but was born and raised in Cleveland,Ohio. Before I started my journey as a Doula, I worked in the Customer service field in various capacities from sales to quality assurance. I also obtained an Associates of Science in Information Technology degree from Bryant& Stratton College in 2001. I’m a mother of two adult sons and one cat. When I’m not being a Doula I’m crafting, reading and cooking.

Ujima Doula Services pronounced (ooh jeh mah)is the third principle of Kwanzaa that means collective work and responsibility. I felt that I had a responsibility to my community. My personal journey started several years ago when I became fascinated by midwives and birth workers in general along with learning about the disparity in care in general for woman, especially women of color in the United States.  I wanted to help my community as a whole and offer my collective services to families to build and maintain our community and to make our brothers and sisters problems our problems while solving them together.

I’m awakened and I know that birth work is my calling. My passion lays in helping women and disenfranchised people of the world as well as educating people about their reproductive options and ending stigma. This is my journey. Welcome to my awakening.

I currently hold a certification in Pregnancy and Infant Loss where I focus on abortion and miscarriage support. Along with that, for the past few years I’ve been an active participant in the monthly Full Spectrum Doula Circles.   I started my postpartum training with DONA International, now however I have switched over to Madriella to obtain several different certifications to further suite the needs of my clients and their families.
